We're headed to Bangkok for FMA 2022!
Team ION revs up for our first exhibition in a post-lockdown era from 20th to 22nd July
If you’re looking for an excuse to get out of town, or if you’re lucky enough to be living in and about Bangkok, do come by to our booth at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (Hall EH99 / Booth MB01) next week from 20th to 22nd July to meet and greet us at Future Mobility Asia 2022 (register here to attend for free).
I thought it would be fun to include an internal time-lapse of our packaging process for an updated build of the ION Mobius prior to shipping it off to Bangkok.
It’s been more than 6 months since our last update. In the first half of this year, our team’s been hard at work on all fronts, adding improvements to the ION Mobius while conducting much-needed and ongoing testing at a component-level and vehicle-level. We’ve achieved UN38.3 and R136 certification for our battery pack and are in the midst of preparing for vehicle homologation in our initial launch market of Indonesia. As we embark upon the second half of the year, we’re taking the chance to say hello to the much-loved city of Bangkok, publicly display our latest build of the ION Mobius and learn more about the opportunities and potential for electric motorbikes in the Thai market from our customers, partners and investors.
An International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) report estimates that by 2025, around 20% of vehicles in Southeast Asia will be electric, with around 59 million two-to three-wheelers and 8.9 million four-wheel vehicles. Coupled with an expected 60% increase in energy demand by 2040 due to rapid economic growth, Southeast Asia represents a market with opportunities for robust multi-billion investments and growth in this industry.
We started ION Mobility with the mission to create affordable, desirable and sustainable mobility for everyone on the roads of Southeast Asia. We are the most end-to-end, full-stack team working on this problem in our region, cutting across diverse fields of industrial and product design, mechanical, electrical, embedded and software engineering, supply chain and assembly.
Some may say electric motorbikes are just “two wheels, a battery pack (or two) and an electric motor”; we say there’s a lot more to it if we are to deliver an automotive-grade urban commute product that is desirable and reliable. Others may say there are cheaper products aplenty from the China industrial complex that we just can’t beat; we say the nature of urban motorcycle commuting in Southeast Asia is fundamentally different from theirs, and a far more integrated and regionalised approach is needed over a longer period of time in order to earn and sustain commuters’ interest and trust.
It’s getting easier to travel, so we look forward to meeting and greeting more of you this time round, as we continue to scoot towards our next few major milestones for 2022.
See you in Bangkok!
